Boys Varsity Basketball · Bulldogs win Carmichaels King Coal Tournament


The boys basketball team won both of their games in the Carmichaels King Coal Tournament this past week in contrasting styles. On Thursday they defeated Geibel Catholic 66 to 57, overcoming an 8 point halftime deficit. Easton McDaniel had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists while JJ Green had 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 8 steals and 2 blocked shots. Andrew Bower had 11 of his 14 points in the second half, many of them coming at crucial points in the game.

In Friday’s Championship game victory the Bulldogs raced out to a 20 to 5 1st quarter lead over the host ‘Mikes on their way to a 63 to 53 win. The Bulldogs were again led by McDaniel, Green and Bower. McDaniel led the team with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Green had 16 points and Bower added 11. McDaniel was named Most Valuable Player while Green and Bower both made the All Tournament team.

In both wins the team received solid contributions from Colby Kuhns, Nick Martin, Leonard Johns, Chris Cramer and Cameron Palmer. All 5 of these players performed their roles well and were instrumental in the team’s success, especially Kuhns and Martin.

The Bulldogs have a record of 4 wins and 4 losses and are riding a 3 game winning streak. They resume play Friday January 4 2019 in a AAA Section 4 contest at McGuffey.
